ABOUT

Jordan Neal is an interdisciplinary feminist artist based on the Sunshine Coast (Gubbi Gubbi Country), Queensland. Since 2017, she has used her practice to challenge and reject taboos associated with her (cis) female body. In 2021 she was diagnosed with Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder; this prompted the start of a new era of her work. Jordan’s current practice explores the personal, social and political consequences of the lack of research of women’s reproductive health, with a primary focus on menstruation. Through installation, sculpture, painting and text, Neal examines and subverts cultural norms and highlights the visceral monthly realities of menstruators. Her work is, if nothing else, a conversation starter and invites viewers to reconsider and dismantle the menstrual concealment imperative.

Fresh out of Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2019, Jordan began volunteering at the Butter Factory Arts Centre (BFAC) in 2020. She is now employed at BFAC as the events coordinator, and is the new project coordinator for the 40 Under 40 Exhibition & Art Prize. She has also participated in the selective professional development programs The Path (2022) and ProjectLAB (2023), and had her first solo exhibition at LANTANA Space in March 2023, following a month-long residency. Jordan is currently building her Menstrual Body of work and working towards new collaborative projects.
